The MENA premiere of Scorsese’s next highly-anticipated project will be first seen by audiences in the Egyptian capital on November 20. In addition to the gala premiere, the movie will be screened across the city the next day in the Opera House as well.
The movie, which is based on a book by Charles Brandt titled, ‘I Heard You Paint Houses’, will see Scorsese reunite with Robert De Niro for the ninth time. The story is set in post-war America and told through the eyes of World War II veteran ‘Frank Sheeran’ (De Niro). The movie also stars the likes of Al Pacino, Joe Pesci and many more.
Apart from flaunting this powerhouse of a director’s work, the festival has assembled a line-up of 150 movies that include international and Arabic titles from 63 countries, all of which will be screened during the 10-day fest.
CIFF’s President Mohamed Hefzy said: “We are extremely excited to be raising the red curtain of the Festival with the epic masterpiece from one of the greatest filmmakers of all time, the genius that is Martin Scorsese. ‘The Irishman’ is a true cinematic experience with powerhouse performances that will thrill audiences in Cairo this November.”
‘The Irishman’ releases on Netflix on November 27.
