Hit Netflix original, The Crown, has decided to take a break from filming this year as its cast faces a shuffle in cast, which means Imelda Staunton will now make an appearance as Queen Elizabeth II till 2022.
This break will mean that filming for season 5 will not commence before June next year, make 2021 a year without the show’s episodes. While many might think that this break has occurred due to the coronavirus pandemic, the real season is that this filming break has always been part of the show’s production schedule.
If Netflix were to release a new season next year, it would mean that the production process would have to begin now, and be ramped up since it requires a mix of both studio and set piece location shoots.
While it has been revealed that Staunton will play the role of the Queen for the final two seasons, with Lesley Manville reprising the role of Princess Margaret, the remaining cast members are to be revealed over the next few months.
