I’ll be honest, coloured lighting has never really been something I’ve particularly yearned for. Call me old-fashioned but when I’m looking for bulbs for my home, I tend to stay in the yellow-white range. It wasn’t until I was literally handed these multicoloured bulbs that I felt compelled to give them a go.
Turns out, these are pretty great
I’m the kind of person who puts a lot of focus on the lighting of a room, flittering around on a daily basis lighting candles and workin’ that ambience to its full potential. If a room doesn’t feel relaxed, I’m not relaxing, and that’s kind of the whole point of being at home.
As we move further into the wonderful world of automation, we’re having to worry less about the little things. We can find recipes, translate languages and find directions using just our voices. And now, thanks to these handy little bulbs, we can turn on the lights too. With the help of the Kasa app, you can connect your lights to Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant or Microsoft Cortana. You can also set a lighting schedule so your lights are on when you get home, or if you have a pet, you can make sure your fur baby isn’t kept in the dark.
I struggled at first to figure out how to get connected from my phone to the bulbs but it’s relatively simple once you get the hang of it. You do need to download Google Home if you don’t have an Alexa or Cortana. But it’s pretty self-explanatory from there.
The bulbs come in both multicolour and tunable white, if you don’t fancy having a pink or blue hue around your home.
My favourite feature has to be the presets. I was pretty much sold when I saw a “Movie Night,” preset which dimmed the lights to a perfect cinema setting – one where you can still see the amount of popcorn you may or may not have left!
You can also create your own custom presets. So, if you’re a bedtime reader and don’t enjoy being sat in the middle of the Times Square while cosying up, you have full control of how light or dark you need your room to be.
Saving energy is a huge deal for me, I hate the thought of wasting more than I need to in any situation so the fact that these bulbs reduce energy use without losing brightness is a huge selling point. Plus, the app tracks your usage for you, so you know just how much you’re using (or not using!)
Honestly, these bulbs have been somewhat of a game-changer for me, from the automation to the presets and a massive bonus with the energy saving aspect, I’m not sure I could ever go back to my regular yellow-whites.
