In a word: ICONIC. One of the most fierce and fabulous ladies currently walking the planet (Michelle Obama) is set to be depicted by another of the most fierce and fabulous ladies walking the planet (Viola Davis) and we’re so here for it.
Reported by Deadline, Showtime’s newly ordered series First Ladies, will be a scripted drama about the backbone of the United States, following the stories of how various First Ladies have influenced the country, their husbands and essentially the entire world. It will also follow their daily lives as well as their experiences in the White House and at one of the highest positions in the world. The first season will focus on Eleanor Roosevelt, Betty Ford (who have not yet been cast), and Michelle Obama.
Viola Davis is well known for her depiction of strong, powerful women in films such as The Help, where she played Aibileen Clark, a 1960s housemaid who fights for her right to have a voice during the Civil Rights Movement. But, she’s probably best-known for her role on How To Get Away With Murder where she became the first black woman of any nationality to win the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. So, it’s only fitting that she portrays our favourite First Lady.
